Benicar is what’s known as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. When used it’s able to keep a persons blood vessels from narrowing, which in turn is going to lower blood pressure levels and improve blood flow. In addition to this Benicar is also used in order to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults as well as children who are at least 6 years of age. High blood pressure problems are on the rise, and there’s many reasons for this.
The main reason would be the unhealthy diet a lot of people have. This would include eating a lot of heavily processed foods that have a high amount of sodium in them. When you combine this with not getting enough to drink or drinking the wrong thing (sodas, alcohol) then the problem can become even worse as a persons system has to work overtime in order to keep blood pressure levels where they need to be.
Medicational treatment such as Benicar works for people who are in serious need of blood pressure regulation right now, and don’t have the time to invest in longer term treatments (simple exercise and dietary changes). Plus in some instances these methods just might not work as well for everyone. There may be other uses for this medication not listed above, but high blood pressure treatment is the primary use.
If you end up taking Benicar in order to help with different blood pressure problems, then what are some of the common potential side effects you might face?
Serious allergic reactions (this would include symptoms such as hives, a hard time breathing, swelling in the face, lips, tongue and throat.
These are the highest probability side effects a person might encounter while on this drug. In many cases these symptoms are a result of a persons body getting used to using the drug. Once this happens the severity along with the frequency of symptoms should stop completely. If this isn’t the case and symptoms become worse or more frequent, then be sure to contact a doctor or a pharmacist right away for help.
What are some of the more serious potential side effects a person might face as a result of using this treatment?
A light-headed feeling, like you might pass out
Little or no urinating
Severe or ongoing diarrhea with weight loss
Chest pain, fast heart rate
Swelling in your hands or feet
The above isn’t a complete set of side effects a person might experience. You’ll need to watch yourself carefully while using this drug and report to a doctor right away if you notice any serious differences. Even something small has to be reported to a doctor just to be on the safe side.
Benicar is best used for people who need immediate help with blood pressure problems, because of risk for other serious health related problems. This would include the possibility of stroke, heart attack or kidney problems.
