Kemadrin is the brand name version of a prescription drug medication known as Procyclidine. Its main use is to help people to get relief from some of the side effects they might experience due to taking different antipsychotic medicines.
In addition to the above, a prescription medication such as Kemadrin can be prescribed in order to help with a number of different mental health conditions, such as schizophrenia.
Seeing as how Kemadrin is designed to be a side effect treatment, it has the unwanted side effect of causing body movements. At times these body movements can be severe and make it hard for a person to function in day to day life.
These types of movement disorders go by a name, ‘extrapyramidal side-effects’. The movements can include any number of things such as uncontrolled face movements, body movements, tremors, as well as restlessness.
What are some of the more common side effects you might put yourself at risk for if you decide to use this medicational treatment?
What are some of the less common/serious side effects you might put yourself at risk for if you decide to use this medicational treatment?

Feeling or being sick
A fast heartbeat, skin rash, mood changes, and feeling anxious, confused or forgetful
How will a doctor know if Kemadrin is right for your condition?
First, there are a number of different antipsychotic medications out there that come with serious movement side effects. These are the types of drugs that are known to be high risk. Doctors don’t give them out unless they can be sure it’s going to benefit the patient in the long run. So the first thing they do is make sure you’re a good fit for the antipsychotic drugs you might have been using in the first place.
Second, when or if these treatments start to bring about the conditions Kemadrin is designed to treat, then the severity of the condition will have to be looked at very closely. If the movement disorder side effect is severe enough, then you’ll be prescribed either Kemadrin or something similar to it. If the movement disorder side effect isn’t that severe, then a doctor might want to wait a little while longer in order to see if the problem improves on its own.
Third, a doctor will need to know a little bit more about the types of antipsychotic medications you might have been using in the past. These could be treatments you got from a different doctor. Now in many cases they’ll already know about this in advance and use it in their decision to give you antipsychotic drugs in the first place. But sometimes it can be missed and this can increase the chances of experiencing the unwanted movement disorder side effect.
All in all, a doctor will have to be sure you’re actually going to get help due to using Kemadrin. The purpose is to help your problem, not do anything to make it worse. So careful evaluation is going to play a part before as well as after you were given either this treatment or something similar to it.
